Default HOW are 55's so good?

I'm not a big monk player, but I am big on melee.

Over the course of 7+ months of playing GW, I have encountered about 4-6 "55" monks, the famed "Invincible monk" build.

5 of them died.
Two of them were in the Krytan area.
One was in an AB.
And another I scrimm'd and killed EASILY.

Now am I being the one skilled or is this build really not as good as it's cracked up to be? What do they do to be so good and how do they do it? I cannot FATHOM just having 55 hitpoints, I would die immediately! There's way too many enchantment killers out there for this to be any good, but apparently it is. Why and HOW?

the 55 monk is a farming build. nothing more. anyone running one in pvp is an idiot or a griefer.

the concept behind the 55 monk is simple: protective spirit plus high health regeneration. you only take 5 dmg per hit, and with say 8 pips of health regeneration, you are being healed for 16 hp each second, negating those 5 dmgs you are taking.

What he said.

Also because this build is energy intensive they are heavily dependant that the agro only be on them to be able to regenerate the amount of energy necessary to recast their enchantments. Which probably explains why you beat the 55 in a scrim and why the others you grouped with died. There was not enough agro to go around and they simply ran out of energy.
Not to mention that the timing of casting and the recasting of spells has to be pretty much dead on to keep you alive. One missed or late cast and your done.

its a farming build, of course it will suck anywhere else. you shouldnt see 55s outside of an outpost unless you are an SS or famine ranger.

55 is for farming mindless mobs, not mindful humans. If you can be farmed by a 55, go quit Guild Wars. (Which you haven't, so don't quit.)

lol 55 monks in AB are funny, specially because there are Touchers running around and 1 Vamp bite kills them xD

Oh ok, that makes a lot more sense. If I ever see another 55 monk in a group, I'll be sure to make fun of them. Especially If they die. I really haven't seen one truly in action yet.

Try farming as a 55. You'll see how they work.

I can't get to those high level-farming areas very easily as some people can. It would take me months and I don't have the patience.

I do have a level 4 NF protection monk. As I go down the road in GW experience and acquire those high level areas and am able to afford to actually work on it, I might try.
I always wanted a monk, I've played them in the past and they are so much fun so I have no plans of deleting mine. Even though I probably won't bother touching the character for a while (Though when I return, equipped max armor shall be waiting ^_^)

If you are in Tyria just take Ranger as a secondary and run there. All you have to beat is Sanctum Cay. Or just pay 3-5k and get a run there or to Droks. Look for a Dervish runner for Droks, as I believe they have the most consistent successes since the AI update.

I can run you to Sanctum Cay myself, if you would like. And Sanctum Cay is not a hard mission to complete.

What use would it be at level 4 and in nightfall?
Besides, I'm saving up for a scythe that will probably take 30-40k to create, I won't be on my monk for a while.

It doesn't take much to get a 55 started go to LA and get your armour and runes 5 of them.you will want to store these for awhile untill you get a -50 crim cesta and then the one skill you will need is SoJ.That you will need a run to Droks unless you ascend at the mesa.If you want an exambe look in the farming forum in Monk farming thread look for IDS farming by remmeh and you will get an idea.It is up to you and a full HP Monk with a 55 skill bar wouldn't doe that fast in RA and would do some damage in RA even AB.
